“A lo-fi visual world built from limitations.” (2018)
When Andy Mineo began working on Lo-Fidelity Love, the challenge wasn't coming up with ideas, it was creating a complete visual world with extremely limited resources. Rather than treating the budget as a problem to solve or something to disguise, I saw an opportunity to make the limitations part of the project's identity.
The breakthrough came when we stopped measuring the work against high-budget productions and fully embraced imperfection as the aesthetic. Inspired by public access television shows like Stairway to Stardom and The Uncharted Zone, we built a visual language around the idea that if something felt too polished, it probably didn't belong. That philosophy guided everything, from photography and video to merchandise and live visuals.
What could have been viewed as constraints ultimately became the project's greatest strength. The press photos became a standout feature on a national tour, resonating with fans and selling at shows, while the broader visual identity earned recognition from creatives including Fred Armisen. More importantly, it established a cohesive language across video, web, live performance, and merchandise, proving that a clear point of view can create a memorable world regardless of budget.
