“90’s style basketball trading cards.” (2017)
Magic & Bird was the first project where I really got to flex both creative direction and design, and trading cards immediately felt like the perfect merch format for its 90s NBA identity. As a former card-collecting kid, it tapped directly into my nostalgia while still feeling fresh in 2017. Shot entirely on film, we recreated classic basketball poses and obsessively replicated era-authentic details in wardrobe, lighting, and layout.
On the back of each card, we wrote playful, romanticized stats that matched the tongue-in-cheek tone of old school trading cards. Concept, creative direction, and design by me, photography by Ray “Neutron” Spears, wardrobe styling by Zeek Elliott, and card design by Jacob Henley and Alex Lopez, a small team creating something that feels less like merch and more like a collectible from a parallel universe.
