Work in Progress Covers
Year: 2019
Client: Miner League
Services: Creative Direction; Art Direction
The Goal: Create a series of single covers and album covers for a project based on unfinished and unreleased songs.
Credits: I contributed the concept, creative direction, and art direction while Marcus C. Thomas handled all of the illustrations.
Notes: In 2019, I visited Barcelona for the first time and had my inevitable, borderline-spiritual encounter with the work of Antoni Gaudí.
Normally, I roll my eyes at the most touristy attractions, but Gaudí’s architecture—especially La Sagrada Familia, the never-ending masterpiece—left me in awe.
So when Andy Mineo hit me up with the idea for Work in Progress, my mind immediately went to Gaudí. The album rollout involved a series of singles leading up to the full project, so we took that idea literally—revealing the cover piece by piece, just like the music.
The final artwork also shows Andy being constructed in sections, reinforcing the album’s core theme: we’re all unfinished works in progress.
Looking back, I’m proud of how it turned out—thanks in large part to the incredible execution by Marcus C. Thomas. A true work in progress that, thankfully, did get finished. Unlike some cathedrals I could name.
